On January 1, 1808 the United States abolished the importation of slaves to this country. On that same day, Rev. Absalom Jones presented a sermon at St. Thomas African Episcopal Church to celebrate this momentus event. The sermon conveys thankfulness for that step toward freedom and hope for the days to come.
